Country House
This elegant, architecturally important, country house has great charm. It is set in a small estate with far reaching views of the beautiful Surrey countryside. The clients, who are avid collectors of English and Continental antiques, wished to restore this French style ‘trianon’ to accommodate their extensive collection.
Prior to the redecoration, numerous unsympathetic additions to the interior had to be removed to reveal the original Edwardian architecture. The principal reception rooms, the Library, Dining Room, and the Drawing Room surround an internal courtyard of original stone classical pillars.
The Entrance Hall (pictured top right)
The formality of the Entrance Hall with its restored black and white marble floor was enhanced by introducing a pair of 19th century chandeliers and a set of hand printed French wallpaper panels set into specially designed, antique painted panelling. This subtle decorative effect is accentuated by the set of French 19th century gilt furniture with original tapestry covers.
The Library (pictured bottom left)
This handsome domed room has been decoratively painted and furnished to create an attractive yet formal reception room. The handmade translucent glass bull’s eye windows, commissioned by the clients, were set in the ceiling to harmonize with the decoration. The library bookshelves now house an extensive collection of French 19th century porcelain. The over- doors have been draped to soften the architecture and create a 19th century effect.
